Hiroshi Tomita
Born in Kobe, Japan. Established GEO SEARCH CO., LTD. and put the world’s first system for preventing road subsidence into practical use. Founded the world’s first non-governmental, business-supported landmine removal organization, JAHDS (Japan Alliance for Humanitarian Demining Support), and continued activities for the countries involved until 2006. Preah Vihear Temple, where landmine removal took place, was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2008. Was instrumental in further evolving landmine detection technology, and developed the world’s first high-speed/high-resolution underground and interior detection system, SKELE-CAR, for use in the field. Has been active in subsidence prevention in earthquake-stricken areas immediately following 3.11 as well as in earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation throughout Japan.
